It is no secret that I lost my heart to the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i. I have an endless list of things that I love and miss about the Garden Isle every single day – let me share with you thirteen of them:
1. Camping at the beach
A cosy bonfire with your friends, swimming in the ocean at night, sleeping in a hammock and watching dozens of shooting stars – nothing beats camping on Kaua’i. When you wake up at sunrise, there is a double rainbow over the ocean and pods of dolphins & humpback whales are jumping. Sounds too good to be true? I know, welcome to Hawaii!
2. Aloha Spirit
What exactly does the word Aloha stand for? Aloha is a common word in Hawaii and it is used in greetings, farewells and in expressing love. Aloha is not only a word, it is a way of life.
3. (Double) Rainbows
Yep, right. Double rainbows. Before I came to Hawaii, I didn’t even know that double rainbows existed. You can spot the craziest rainbows pretty much every day all over the island. Make sure to take some epic photos of rainbows in Waimea Canyon or at Wailua Falls.
4. Hitchhiking
The easiest and probably most fun way to get around on the island is hitchhiking. Sunshine, loud music, a breeze and an unbeatable view!
5. Hammocks
There are a lot of unique places on Kaua’i where you can set your hammock and marvel at the island’s incredible beauty! Oh, and while doing that, you should listen to John Cruz’s Island Style!
6. Ohana
Ohana means family. When you’re traveling on Kaua’i you will make friendships that last a lifetime. I’m so grateful for all the lovely people I’ve met there!
7. Sunrise
Marvelous sunrises over the ocean are nothing special on Kaua’i – you can have it every morning – you just need to wake up pretty early!
8. Moonrise
You may have seen a sunrise, but have you seen a moonrise? Definitely one of my most magical Hawai’i moments!
9. Drinking fresh coconuts on the beach
The best thing you can drink on a hot Hawaiian summer day is fresh coconut water from a coconut you found right at the beach – so refreshing!
10. Waterfalls
I really miss the waterfalls on Kaua’i – Wailua Falls, Ho’opi’i Falls, Waipo’o Falls, Hanakāpī‘ai Falls – the list of waterfalls is endless.
11. Java Kai Coffee
The best coffee on the island! I went to Java Kai almost every day and I simply love it! Great breakfast bowls, smoothies, cakes, and amazing coffee! My favorite coffee is the Wired Monkey with frozen chocolate, espresso, banana, coconut and rice milk.
12. Dolphins & Humpback Whales
When on Kaua’i, make sure to book a boat trip. You will get to see pods of dolphins, humpback whales and the breathtaking Na Pali Coast.
13. Breakfast with a view
Breakfast on the rooftop of Kaua’i Beach House Hostel – I guess there is nothing more to add!
